Cole Slaw

Carmen: This is delicious! But why is it called cold slaw?

Me: No dear its cole slaw. And I'm guessing cole is a word for cabbage. I'll check.

Carmen: Oh...I thought slaws were those big ugly animals that hung in trees all day.

Me: No, those are sloths.

Carmen: Oh! Now I get it!

Me: Um, okay.

(Update: I checked...
Etymology: Dutch koolsla, from kool cabbage + sla salad
: a salad made of raw sliced or chopped cabbage)

"col" is also cabbage in spanish. It's slowly all making sense. . . :)
